3666 Unit 1: Basic Principles
of Communications Systems
This unit is concerned with safe working practices and the basic
principles of communications systems including SI Units and Symbols,
Basic Electricity, Communications Systems and Data Communication.
This is the core unit of the C&G 3666-02 qualifications and
must be completed in addition to one optional unit to achieve
the full certificate. It is a three day theory course at the end
of which you will sit an online City & Guilds examination.

3666 Unit 2: Fibre Optic Cabling in an
Internal Environment
This unit covers the installation, splicing, connectorisation,
termination and testing of fibre optic cable in an internal environment,
typically local area networks, characterised by low fibre count
cables terminated in patch panels/equipment racks, ODFs etc. It
covers health and safety, recommended installation procedures,
preparation of cable for connectorisation and splicing, splicing
of cables, termination and fitting of connectors and testing fibre
for continuity (visible light source), insertion loss (light source
and power meter) and link performance (OTDR). This is a five day
essentially practical course with practical assessments and an
online C&G examination.

expected to install and test fibre optic cables within buildings.
