How can I get a list of the FIA members?
   The full list is held on this web site - there is search facility which details our members, their products and services. In addition we publish a downloadable "FIA Members Guide’ which is updated regularly.
What criteria do you have to meet to become an FIA Corporate member?
   Corporate membership is open to companies who are directly involved in the fibre optics/communications industry and are manufacturers, distributors, re-sellers, consultants, installers, system integrators, training providers etc. in the field. The annual membership fee depends on company turnover.
What criteria do you have to meet to become an FIA Associate member?   Associate membership is open to of fibre optic products , systems or services in the sense that they buy-in these facilities for their own networks, e.g. banks, commercial organizations, universities etc.
What criteria do you have to meet to become an FIA Personal member?   Personal membership is open to any individual in the UK wishing to join the FIA..
What criteria do you have to meet to become an FIA Student member?   Student membership is open to students undergoing a regular course of further education in the UK on a subject of relevance to the fibre optic industry. Such students must be a minimum of 17 years old.
If my company becomes a Corporate member can I use the FIA logo on my letterheads etc.?   Yes, you can use the logo on all your promotional material etc. - we can send a copy of the logo to you either in hard copy or via email.
If I become a member will my details appear on the FIA web-site?   Yes -as a benefit of membership (except for Peronal and Student status) we will list your company togethjer with it's products and services, where relevant, on the web-site. We can also include a link to your web site from our FIA Members search facility.
As an FIA member, can I get technical advice via the FIA?
  Yes - in the first instance telephone or email the Secretariat , who will then forward your query to the correct technical person on our Council.
Is there an FIA Newsletter?
   Yes - FIA e-Newsletters are distributed to nominated personnel within our membership to by email . Hard-copy versions are sent on request only.
I am looking for information on Training in Fibre Optics - can you help?
   Please check our Training Providers Listing. In addition, a number of our member companies meet the stringent criteria allowing them to be ‘FIA Approved Training Providers’ and they will be able to give you advice on various training courses etc.
I am now looking for employment in Fibre Optics - which qualifications do I need?


   There is no guaranteed solution - employment success depends upon many factors of which your qualifications are only one - albeit an important one. City & Guilds 3466/3666 certificates provide a good base as do other recognized qualifications such as NVQs. More advanced courses such as those covering OTDR testing are a useful addition.
I have some qualifications in Fibre Optics and I am now looking for employment – can you help with this?
   Please see the ‘FIA SkillsMatch’ details on this website – this is a new scheme which gives you the opportunity to detail your qualifications on a special database which prospective employers can access when looking for staff etc.
We are looking for an installation company to carry out a fibre optic project - can you offer any guidance?   Please search our ‘FIA Approved Installers’ list.
