The FIA AIS Database contains a series of risk elements. Additions
and changes to the actual risk elements is managed by the AIS Directorate
with the involvement and agreement of the Approved Installers.
Each of the risk elements is supported by the
On-Line Assistance. The FIA AIS Index
groups the risk elements into the sections in which they appear
in the AIS Database.
The On-Line Assistance for each risk element comprises
three sections:
“the
risk element explained” - explanation of the risk element;
“what
the published standards say” - details (requirement and recommendations)
of published referenced
standards;
"what
the future standards are expected to say" - details of changes
in proposed revisions of published referenced
standards.
NOTE: the "published referenced standards"
are the currently available versions of BS 6701, BS EN 50174-1,
-2 and -3 and BS EN 50346.
The text of “the risk element explained”
sections is maintained by continuous upgrade by members of the FIA
Council and employees of FIA Approved Installers. A Comments
Sheet exists to allow them to submit proposed changes.
Changes to the other two sections are the responsibility
of the FIA Technical Directorate and will be undertaken on a continuous
basis as standards develop and revisions are proposed.
The current issue of the On-Line Assistance may
contain instances where not all, or none, of the sections for the
risk element contain text. Where the "what the published standards
say" section is blank it is because there is no applicable
text. Where the "what the future standards are expected to
say" section is blank it is because either there is no applicable
text or that section need further work.
A few specific notes are applicable to this issue
of the On-Line Assistance:
jumpers are
not treated separately from cords;
pointers
are given to the sections within the “published referenced
standards” covering segregation between
telecommunications/information
technology cabling and mains power cables but the specific requirements
are
not quoted;
the current
issue of the "what the published standards say" section
excludes coverage of the following:
 surge
protection devices;
 electrical
isolation components;
